minor surgery

Cheshire lasers provides a wide range of minor surgical treatments from the clinic.

The following lesions can be removed:

* Moles
* Skin tags
* Seborrhoeic warts/keratoses
* Warts
* Milia

Most procedures are performed under local anaesthetic so as to ensure the procedure is painless.

Techniques may involve anything from cutting, curetting, to cautery, skin biopsies, freezing and sutures.

Dr Johnson our Medical director is able to remove the simple skin tags, warts and milia.

Dr Paul Charlson a GP with a Special Interest in dermatology performs the more complex treatments and mole removal.

Most procedures that remove skin tags, moles and cysts leave nothing more than a white scar, the size of which is usually determined by the size of what needs to be removed.

Following a full consultation with one of our doctors, the various methods of treatment would be discussed and the most appropriate method chosen depending upon the type of lesion and the location. Our doctors will also be able to advise you about any concerns you have regarding the procedure before you commit to have it done.They will fully explain any minor surgical operation that is necessary and will only proceed with your consent.

A whole lesion or part of a lesion maybe removed and sent for histology testing for confirmation of the diagnosis; the cost of minor surgery includes a full histology report.

Cryotherapy is the use of liquid nitrogen to freeze the wart or skin tag solid. It takes about 10 seconds of freezing and stings while it is being done. The wart or skin tag will then die and drop off. Blistering, weeping and scabbing maybe part of this process, which will take about 2 weeks.

Curettage - After a local anaesthetic injection the seborrhoeic wart is scraped off with a curette. A curette is like a small sharp spoon. The raw area will scab and heal over about a week. The appearance is usually improved, but a feint scar may remain.

Excision -After a local anaesthetic injection the mole is cut out with a scalpel. The cut will be elliptical and will be closed with a stitch or two. This leaves a small surgical scar. Rarely scars can thicken (hypertrophy) or even grow (keloid).
