What is PRP?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is one of the latest anti-ageing and skin rejuvenation procedures available and has the power to trigger your body’s own tissue regeneration potential. PRP is a naturally occurring component of your own blood. It encourages skin rejuvenation by stimulating the growth of your own collagen and improving blood supply to tissue and can greatly improve skin tone and texture whilst also reducing fine lines and wrinkles, all by stimulating your body’s own regeneration systems.

PRP has been thoroughly investigated and regularly used as clinical tool for several types of medical treatments, including nerve injury, tendinitis, osteoarthritis, cardiac muscle injury, bone repair and regeneration, plastic surgery and oral surgery. PRP has also received attention in the popular media as a result of its use in treating sports injuries in professional athletes.

What does a PRP treatment involve?

This innovative technique involves taking a small amount of blood putting it through a centrifuge to separate the different components of blood. One of the componemts that is separated in this process is platelet enriched plasma, this is the component of blood that carries the body’s natural healing powers and has been proved to be highly effective in healing skin wounds and burns. This plasma is then re-injected into the chosen area to rejuvenate heal and repair the tissues.

What can PRP be used for ?

At Cheshire Lasers PRP can be used on the face, neck, hands and other areas of the body for skin rejuvenation with sometimes astonishing results: skin is re-plumped and rejuvenated; fine lines and wrinkles are reduced and skin contours are redefined to create a youthful, radiant bloom. It is highly successful in reducing crow’s feet and wrinkles around the lips, nose and mouth. It is popular for the tear trough area giving a more natural appearance.

Treatment of the face with PRP has been called the vampire facial or dracula facial on various reality TV shows such as Cheshire Housewives. Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian have had this treatment to rejuvenate the skin.

The PRP can be injected into problem areas, or the skin can be treated with a dermapen or dermaroller which creates lots of tiny holes in the skin due to microneedling and the PRP is applied on the surface of the skin.
