What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment that brightens and gives the skin an instant glow.

A sterile scalpel is used to gently and safely remove dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin (epidermis).

This non-invasive treatment leaves the skin more receptive to serums and moisturisers, therefore increasing cell renewal and the production of collagen and elastin, for a more youthful and rejuvenated complexion.

An added bonus to this treatment is the removal of the vellus hair (peach fuzz) on the surface of the skin. This gives a silky look that allows make-up to be applied flawlessly. The treatment is pain-free and many clients have reported it is as a calm, relaxing experience.

Will Dermaplaning affect hair growth?

Dermaplaning does not alter the structure of the hair. Hair growth will return as it was before the treatment and WILL NOT grow back faster and thicker.

Contraindications to Dermaplaning:

Active acne – pustules, broken or damaged skin
Oral retinoids – Roaccutane (cannot be taken for at least 6 months before treatment)
Topical retinol is OK
Active skin infections – psoriasis, dermatitis (if on the face)
Auto-Immune diseases – lupus

Cautions for Dermaplaning:

If you have any of the following, please arrange an initial consultation/assessment before booking a treatment:

Diabetes that is not controlled (well-controlled diabetics are fine to be treated)
Blood thinning medicines
Sensitive skin
Pregnant or breastfeeding

Please note:
We do not recommend a Dermaplaning treatment less than 5 days before a sun holiday. As the skin is highly sensitive to sun rays following the treatment.

Pre-treatment advice:

do not use sunbeds on the day of the treatment and for up to 7 days after.
arrive to your appointment make-up free or with as little make-up as possible.

The face will be cleansed and prepped as part of the treatment; however, removing excess make-up and stubborn eye make-up will eat into the treatment time. This means less time for the Dermaplaning.

Dermaplaning Aftercare:

Your skin will be slightly red after the treatment and for up to 1 hour after
You can apply make-up immediately after; however, we recommend you allow the serums to absorb into your skin first for best results, which can take several hours.
Please wear a high SPF for at least one week after treatment.
Vellus hair may feel blunt when growing back

Threading

The art of threading for hair removal – is now available again at Cheshire lasers.

This ancient art of eyebrow shaping and hair removal originates from Asia. It is now available to male and female clients at the Cheshire Laser Clinic.

Threading has fast become the celebrities’ preferred method for shaping perfect eyebrows and removing hair.

We are lucky to have one of Cheshire’s Threading Experts now working here at Cheshire Lasers Clinic. She will analyse your eyebrows or facial hair and advise you on the perfect solution. She can also remove hair from the chin, lips and face.

Each threading experience is personal, private and nothing short of perfection.

The end result for eyebrows is a precise, symmetrical and accurate arch which also defines your facial features amazingly. The results are a real confidence booster.

For hair removal, the treatment is kinder to the skin and is also less traumatic than waxing as no heat or chemicals are applied. No hair removal treatment can ever be pain-free. However, we use a wonderful desensitising Witch-hazel Solution that will make your threading experience as pleasurable as can be.

Regrowth is finer, softer and smoother – retraining unruly eyebrows to grow in a more flattering direction.

Ultraformer Wrinkle Treatment

Cheshire Lasers is excited to now have the Ultraformer MF2 wrinkle treatment.

The sensitive and shallow regions around the eye, the mouth and the forehead can now be treated with ultrasound technology with ease due to the newly developed MF2 Ultraformer Treatment.

What can the MF2 Ultraformer Wrinkle Cartridge treat?

The great news is that we can improve fine lines and wrinkles with only one treatment. However, we recommend a course of around three treatments for best results. Different people respond differently and have their skin has different needs and starting points.

Ultraformer MF2 Treatment Areas:

The Upper Lip

We have treated upper lips with the Ultraformer MF2 with considerable success so far. This is an excellent treatment for smokers lines and would suit someone who is afraid to have Dermal Fillers but wants improvement to the area with no downtime.

This treatment is also suitable for someone who has had fillers in that area already, and the lines are starting to come back, but they are not ready for more fillers.

The Perioral Area

The area in the image is treated to improve fine lines and wrinkles. This treatment improves the smokers lines and the cobblestone effect that can occur in this area due to age and sun-damage.

The Under Eye Area

We have treated the under eye area the Ultraformer MF2 and seen impressive results so far.

This area is challenging to improve; in the past, the treatments we have tried have required many repeat treatments and given only slight improvements or have been too invasive, requiring an extended downtime.

The MF2 treatment may only require three treatments, and there is no downtime.

There is the option to also treat the crow’s feet and part of the upper eyelid with this treatment.

Does the Ultraformer MF2 treatment hurt?

The treatment feels like warm pulses of ultrasound energy, which may feel uncomfortable for some people. Treatment around the mouth and perioral areas may feel sensitive in the teeth momentarily.

How many Ultraformer MF2 treatments will I need?

Some people will see a small improvement after one treatment but generally, we recommend a course of 3 treatments once a month. However, this will depend on the severity of the condition to start with and the collagen stimulation response of each client.

At Cheshire Lasers, we have found fine lines and wrinkles that have been there a few years have needed 2-3 treatments. Whereas lines that have been there many years have required at least 5 or 6 procedures.

Can I have the Ultraformer MF2 treatment if I have Botox or fillers?

The MF2 treatment is an alternative treatment to fillers; however, it can be used alongside a filler treatment to create even better results.
If a dermal filler is in the treatment area, we ask that you leave three months for the filler to integrate with the tissues before having an Ultraformer treatment. For Botox, the MF2 treatment can be performed in the same area 2 weeks after the injections.

How long will the Ultraformer MF2 results last for?

Following the final treatment session of the course, it will take 60-100 days for the collagen to stimulate and for the full results to be visible. The results can last up to 12 months. However most people like to have a maintenance treatment every 2-4 months.

Are there any side effects to the Ultraformer MF2 treatment?

Common side effects after the treatment are redness and swelling. This normally reduces a few hours after and you can go back to your regular daily activities straight away.

Bruising can occur, which is more likely around the eye area.

Am I suitable for an Ultraformer MF2 treatment?

We do not recommend the Ultraformer treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you have teeth implants in the treatment area or metal braces. However invisaline braces, veneers and fillings are all fine.

Dr Teri Johnson, our Medical Director, lives in Middlewich, where she has also been a part-time GP partner since 2000. She has been performing Botox treatments in her Cheshire Clinic since 2006. Profhilo

Profhilo is currently one of the most popular treatments at Cheshire Lasers

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is a completely new product that uses patented technologies engineered for ‘skin remodelling’. It is made from hyaluronic acid (HA) like many Dermal Fillers however rather than filling lines it is designed to promote collagen and elastin growth to reduce skin laxity.

Thanks to the unique characteristics of Profhilo, improving skin laxity is easily obtained in only two sessions, with a 1-month interval, and only five injection points on each side of the face. Profhilo is suitable for practically anyone, men and women, from 30 years old and with no upper age limit.

Profhilo is the first BDDE-free stabilised injectable HA based product for treating skin laxity.
With one of the highest concentrations of HA on the market (64mg/2ml) it is not only boosting and hydrating the skin, but also remodels the ageing and sagging tissue. As a stabilised product Profhilo lasts in the skin around 28 days. During this time the stimulation of 4 different types of collagen and elastin takes place by slow release of HA.
The stimulation results in significant tissue improvement. Therefore, we cannot say that Profhilo is a skin booster as it also has a significant tightening/lifting effect on the tissue.

Profhilo is licensed as a Medical device and has a European CE Mark. The treatment is temporary as the HA completely breaks down within the skin, leaving no trace.

Can you combine Profhilo with other treatments?

Profhilo delivers great results as a treatment on its own or in combination with other aesthetics treatments currently on offer.

Treated areas shouldn’t be reinjected with any other products within 2 weeks of the initial procedure.

Unless the same doctor/ nurse is performing the treatments we recommend, Botulinum Toxin should be injected two weeks prior or 2 weeks after a Profhilo treatment.

We recommend you leave a 2 weeks window pre and post any Microdermabrasion, chemical peel, facial or IPL treatment.

Fractional resurfacing 3–4 weeks distant.

We do not recommend Profhilo treatment in the immediate period following other routine medical procedures (including vaccination) and dental procedures. At Cheshire Lasers, we recommend you leave a 2-week window pre and post-Prohilo treatment.

What happens during a Profhilo Treatment?

During the treatment, we inject the product using very fine needles in five specific points on the face. These are called the Bio Aesthetic Points (BAPs).

At Cheshire Lasers, we usually perform Profhilo using this BAP technique. It makes the treatment effective and simple, reducing the chance of pain, bruising or haematoma at the injection sites.

Once injected, the product immediately starts spreading under the skin and disperses evenly, integrating within the skin’s existing tissue.

How long do the results last?

You should notice the results of the treatment – increased firmness, elasticity and an overall improved quality of your skin for around six months.

However, other factors can affect the results, such as your age, your lifestyle and your skin’s natural ageing process.

How many Profhilo treatments will I need?

For most patients, we recommend an initial course of two treatment sessions, with an interval of one month between sessions.

We then recommend top-up and maintenance sessions approximately every six months, depending on your body’s response to the initial treatment.

How much is a Profhilo treatment?

A single 2ml treatment is approximately £270- 325. The price varies according to the practitioner and their experience.

Are there any side effects from Profhilo treatment?

Immediately after treatment, lumps are noticeable at the injection sites and look like midgey bites. The lumps reduce quickly over a few hours and usually disappear by the next morning.

You may experience redness, itching, discolouration and tenderness at the injection site. These effects are mild and usually fade quickly.

Bruising can occur and may last several days, sometimes a bit longer.

Is Profhilo suitable for everyone?

Profhilo is suitable for anyone who is looking for treatment for the signs of ageing skin.

At Cheshire Lasers we do recommended profhilo if:

you have a hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid
you are pregnant or breastfeeding

Tattoo Removal

Tattoo Removal at Cheshire Lasers

At Cheshire Lasers we use A Lynton Q-Switch Laser for Tattoo Removal. Made locally in Holmes Chapel by Lynton Lasers, it uses advanced technology for Tattoo Removal. Q-switch lasers are the only type of laser that are safe and effective for the removal of tattoos.

Not all lasers are the same and not just any laser can safely remove tattoos.

What type of Tattoos can our Lasers fade?

Our laser can fade away tattoos of various size and colour. Tattoos are of two main types: the Indian ink amateur tattoo or the multi-coloured, professional tattoo.

What colour Tattoos can it fade?

Single-colour tattoos usually respond best to laser tattoo removal. Multi-coloured, professional tattoos are much more difficult to eradicate completely.

Black, blue and red colours in the tattoo respond best to treatment, but green, yellow and purple pigment can be more difficult.

Green coloured tattoos require different lasers for successful treatment, and we may need to recommend a specialist clinic with a ruby laser to remove this colour.

What happens during a Tattoo Removal Treatment?

Active Q-Switch Lasers that generate a high powered beam of laser light in an extremely short pulse are the most suitable lasers for tattoo removal treatment. The light is absorbed by the tattoo ink particles, breaking them down into smaller pieces, enabling your natural immune defences to absorb and disperse the ink. A gradual fading of the tattoo occurs over a series of treatments.

The skin is cleaned and the laser applicator is passed over the tattoo releasing quick pulses of light. You will hear an audible clicking noise as the ink particles shatter. After treatment, we will apply a dressing to keep the area clean and dry.

What does it feel like?

Most clients describe the sensation as similar to a hot pin prick or the flick of an elastic band. Whilst mildly uncomfortable, most people tolerate the treatment well. A skin cooling device may be utilised to reduce any discomfort.

How does the skin look after a Tattoo Removal treatment?

An instant whitening of the skin occurs but this generally fades quickly. The area is likely to feel tender for a few hours and can be red and swollen for up to 48 hours. Initially, the tattoo is unlikely to look any different but will fade over 4 to 8 weeks as the body breaks down and disperses the pigmentation.

What is the recovery period?

Some tattoos can graze or blister, if so make sure you left to heal naturally. After your treatment, we will apply a dressing. Keep the area dressed and covered until the area heals. This is important if you develop blistering or grazing, it is also important not to not pick the area while it is healing.

Very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker, or larger blisters may form.

Changes to skin texture and scarring is possible, though very uncommon and is more likely if grazes are not allowed to heal naturally. There may be loss of natural tanning ability in the area treated which usually improves with time.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on a number of factors such as the density and colour of the tattoo and the age of the tattoo. Amateur tattoos can be quick to remove, taking 1 to 6 treatments, whereas professional tattoos vary considerably and can take up to 15 treatments. We recommend you have your treatments every 6 to12 weeks.

Treatment can take 10 minutes to 30 minutes depending on the size of the tattoo.

Laser and IPL Hair Removal

At Cheshire Lasers, our NVQ Level 4 Laser Technician provides Laser and IPL Hair Removal treatments.

Cheshire Lasers offers Intense Pulsed Light ( IPL ) and Laser Hair Removal treatments to leave you with plenty of time to get on with more important things. After all shaving can sometimes feel like a chore, especially on holiday.

The treatments remove unwanted hair by destroying the hair root so that it finds it difficult to re-grow. It is non-invasive, quick and you usually see results in just a few sessions.

IPL and Laser Hair Removal can also offer a superior solution for hormone-related hair growth and for large areas of unwanted hair.

At Cheshire Lasers, we perform mostly IPL Hair Removal treatments using the very effective Lumina AQS machine made by Lynton Lasers. Lynton Lasers a local company in Holmes Chapel make machines with an outstanding reputation and used all over the country.

What to expect during a consultation

Prior to any treatment, our laser technicians will provide a full consultation. The consultation identifies your expectations and provides a complete explanation of the treatment. Our Laser technicians take a full medical history to confirm your suitability for treatment. If you wish to go ahead with treatment, they will discuss everything on our consent form so you understand everything before signing it. They will then perform a patch test to confirm there are no adverse skin reactions to the light.

How do Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Lasers work?

Laser and Intense Pulsed Light systems release precise short bursts of light energy which is the melanin pigment in the hair absorbs. This energy heats the hair and destroys the root to achieve long term hair reduction.

How is Laser treatment carried out?

At Cheshire Lasers, we use Intense Pulsed Light for Hair Removal. You will be asked to put on goggles to protect your eyes. A layer of chilled gel is applied to the area to guide the light into the skin. The light guide is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released, targeting many follicles simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated. The chilled gel is removed and the area is cooled.

Aftercare Sun avoidance is essential. We recommend daily use of a high factor, broad-spectrum sunblock.

Am I suitable for Laser Hair Removal?

The ideal patient is fair-skinned with dark hair, but results can also be achieved for fairer hair and darker skin types. The darker the hair, the more easily it is treated; as darker hair contains more melanin, it will heat up more easily. Fairer hair contains less melanin and is harder to treat.

Grey/white hair has no melanin so cannot be effectively treated. If you have grey or white hair we recommend electrolysis. Unfortunately our electrolysis specialist is full to capacity and is not taking new clients on at this time.

How does the Laser / IPL treatment feel?

No anaesthesia is required and most patients describe the discomfort as moderate and acceptable. Sensations vary, but most describe it as a very short hot pinprick that occurs very quickly when the Intense Pulsed Light is emitted, making it the preferred choice for Hair Removal.

As the hair reduces with subsequent treatments the discomfort often reduces.

What will I see after the treatment?

The hair follicles are damaged by heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The hairs fall out after 1 – 3 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will seem to ‘grow’ as they are pushed out by the new epidermis.

Is Laser Hair Removal safe?

The skin can become quite red immediately after treatment, however, most patients experience no side effects and any skin reaction usually disappears within a few hours. Very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker, or some small blister may form.

How many treatments are necessary?

Only hair that is actively growing is affected, therefore multiple treatments are needed. Treatment is conducted every 4 – 8 weeks, depending on the site treated, until a satisfactory result is seen. The number of treatments required varies, but typically 6 or more treatments are required for maximum results.

How long does each Laser /IPL hair removal treatment take?

Treatments can take from 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the area being treated.

IPL Laser Hair Removal mechanics:

The focused, broad-spectrum light is applied to the surface of the skin by way of a handpiece. The intense light travels through the tissue of the skin until it strikes the hair shafts or the bulb (root) of the hair. The bulb is usually where the highest concentration of melanin is located, as opposed to the rest of the hair shaft. The light is converted to heat energy. The bulb and most of the hair shaft are instantly vaporized. The intense heat radiated by the hair also destroys the hair-producing papilla or the entire hair follicle. It is also claimed that direct light-heat conversion occurs directly in the darker coloured capillaries that bring nourishing blood to the follicle.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that reduce the appearance of wrinkles, lines and deeper folds, rejuvenating the skin to give a more youthful appearance.

Are Dermal Fillers Permanent or Temporary?

Dermal fillers are classified into two types: non-permanent (resorbable) or permanent (non-resorbable).

What do Dermal Fillers contain?

In the 1980s, collagen was the first dermal filler approved in the USA.

However, the leading dermal fillers in the UK mostly contain hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of our own skin which can be synthesised artificially to create a dermal filler. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers have the advantage that they can last 4 to 18 months, depending on the product. They can be broken down by the enzyme hyaluronidase if needed, so the filler can be removed more rapidly if necessary.

Other non-permanent dermal fillers contain ingredients such as Poly-L-lactic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite which stimulate collagen while in the skin.

Which Dermal Filler should I have?

This experience has helped them determine which fillers work best in different areas for different skin types and indications to give the effect they want to achieve. Some dermal fillers suit some skin types more than others. There is no perfect filler; different ones last longer in some people than others. Different skin types respond better to different products.

At your consultation, your medical practitioner will assess your skin type, thickness, hydration, texture, and the problems you hope to address. They can then recommend the most appropriate treatment for you and will show you some before and after images of her previous treatments that she has performed with that product to enable you to decide if the treatment is for you.

If you have had dermal fillers in the past, giving your medical practitioner as much information as possible about the treatment is helpful. What is Powerform V-Plus?

Powerform V-Plus is a powerful, revolutionary pelvic floor and core muscle toning treatment. It uses High-Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic technology, which creates the equivalent of 20,000 muscle contractions in a 30-minute treatment.

Powerform V induces deep pelvic floor muscle contractions equivalent to 15,000 Kegel exercises in just 30 minutes.

The treatment targets the pelvic floor muscle directly and doesn’t require neuromuscular control; the muscle can contract far more than it would consciously, creating highly effective results that could not be achieved using manual Kegel exercise alone.

How does Powerform V-Plus Work?

The Powerform V-Plus creates electromagnetic energy fields which trigger the biological effect of exercise in a non-invasive, painless manner. The energy stimulates motor neurone pulses in 100% of the muscle fibre, significantly more than what would be possible in conventional pelvic floor and core muscle exercises.

How many treatments will I need?

At Cheshire Lasers, we recommend a course of around eight Powerform V-Plus treatments to achieve results.

We recommend a treatment twice a week. It can be three times a week if you prefer, however, you must leave 48 hours between each treatment to allow the muscle to recover.

Would a course of Powerform V-Plus treatments suit me?

At Cheshire Lasers, we recommend Powerform V-Plus to strengthen and tighten the pelvic floor muscles.

The treatment can benefit a range of people and problems:

Post-pregnancy to improve weakness in the pelvic floor and or abdominal wall muscles

Is the treatment safe?

Yes! The Powerform treatment transmits consistent electromagnetic fields to the pelvic floor, triggering the biological effect of Kegel exercises in a non-invasive, painless manner.

How long does the treatment take?

Each treatment lasts 30 minutes, making sessions suitable for even the busiest of lifestyles!

What will I feel during the treatment?

The treatment is completely pain-free but can sometimes feel a little uncomfortable. Simply sit on the 3D Powerform V chair fully clothed. The treatment will stimulate thousands of muscle contractions.

Why consider a Powerform V-Plus Pelvic Floor Treatment?

The current guidelines recommend pelvic floor muscle training as the first-line conservative treatment for stress incontinence and mild prolapses. Exercises need to be performed regularly every day and continued long-term to make a difference. Some people struggle to do the exercises due to a lack of time/commitment, whereas others have a poor, ineffective technique, so the exercises do not improve the problem.

To help with pelvic floor exercises, your GP can refer you to a physiotherapist who specialises in pelvic floor problems. They can advise you about technique and help you improve the efficiency of the exercises so they actually cause changes and improvement. Physiotherapists can also help you by using a biofeedback device to measure the strength of the pelvic floor muscle to help educate you when you are making strong contractions and also advise if the exercises are making a difference. They can also advise about vaginal cones. Some physiotherapists also use electrical stimulation to help the muscle contract and increase muscle tone. Despite these interventions, some people still struggle to improve their pelvic floor strength and tone.

Powerform V-Plus targets the entire pelvic floor, unlike the electrical stimulation devices and unlike conscious pelvic floor exercises, which only target a small area of the pelvic floor. A treatment session of 30 minutes is equivalent to 20,000 contractions, so each treatment leads to quicker and more dramatic muscle changes compared to any other treatment.

Does the treatment replace Kegel exercises?

Powerform treatment is considered more effective, as Kegel exercises cannot achieve the intensity or number of muscle contractions that the treatment achieves in a 30-minute session.

It is still recommended that you perform some exercises, especially after your course of treatment, so you can continue to maintain the strength and function of your pelvic floor. You can, however, book maintenance treatments if you prefer as an alternative.

What types of incontinence improve with Pelvic Floor Treatment?

Stress incontinence is the most likely to respond to pelvic floor treatment. Mixed incontinence can also improve to some extent.

What is stress incontinence?

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a condition in which there is an involuntary loss of urine on effort, physical exertion, sneezing or coughing. A weak pelvic floor most commonly causes this, hence why pelvic floor exercises are recommended.

I have had a week pelvic floor and mild stress incontinence for years and this has got worse over time. I struggle to feel my pelvic floor and therefore find pelvic floor exercises impossible. So I thought I would give the Powerform a try.
At first, I felt very little during the treatment and was concerned my muscles were past improvement. After a few treatments, I was more aware of my pelvic floor muscles and felt I could contract them slightly better than I could before. On my 6th and 7th treatments the muscle contractions felt more intense and I became more aware of my own pelvic floor contractions in between treatments.

A week after my 8th treatment on the powerform chair I am so much happier with my pelvic floor function. I can feel a significant improvement in the strength of my muscles and the stress incontinence has improved a lot.
