Do you get dry skin in the Winter? Have you ever wondered why?
In the colder months, more people suffer from dry skin in the UK. The air is drier in the winter, which predisposes to evaporation of moisture from the skin’s surface. The cold outdoor air and the dry indoor heating systems commonly used in the UK exacerbate this issue. These environmental conditions decrease the skin’s natural moisture content, leading to dryness, flakiness, and tightness.
Frequent temperature fluctuations between cold outdoor environments and heated indoor spaces can disrupt the skin’s natural barrier function. This can compromise the skin’s ability to retain moisture, making it more susceptible to dryness and irritation. This lipid barrier helps seal in moisture to protect the skin from external stressors, but if weakened, it allows water to escape and irritants to penetrate more easily.
How can I prevent dry skin in the Winter?
Skin needs extra hydration and support to maintain the skin barrier this time of year. If the barrier is broken down, it will need even more TLC to help repair the problem.
Here at Cheshire Lasers, we have various SOS home treatments specially formulated to address these problems. With daily use, they can treat or prevent the problems you encounter this time of year. Find out more about our SOS products here.
Using a humidifier at home can help increase indoor humidity levels, counteracting the effects of dry heating systems.
Consider changing your cleansers to something more gentle avoiding perfumes and stronger acids.
We also recommend our Winter pHformula Facials.

Profhilo Structura is an exciting new treatment that regenerates the superficial fatty tissue under the skin. In the same way that Profhilo restores skin cells, Structura restores the tissues in the adipose layer of the skin to give a lifting, contouring effect. It is the first and only treatment available in 2024 with evidence that it can stimulate the cells in this layer.
How does Profhilo Structura differ from Profhilo?
Structura contains more Hyaluronic Acid (90mg/2ml ) than Profhilo (64mg/2ml), which means it behaves differently in the tissues.
Standard Profhilo spreads easily through the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin.
Structura spreads in the fatty tissue, activating ageing adipose fat cell receptors and encouraging them to mimic the behaviour of their youth. This improves fat cell quality and a lifting effect. Structura is clinically proven to restore superficial fat to its original position, effectively reducing facial hollows and skin laxity, resulting in a more lifted, contoured, and rejuvenated facial profile.
Like the original Profhilo, Structura is not a filler. The results people achieve are due to tissue regeneration.
Both treatments offer unique rejuvenation and anti-ageing benefits tailored to different concerns and treatment areas.
What does the treatment involve?
The treatment is quick and easy to perform with minimal discomfort. A cannula inserts the product into the correct layer and position, and an immediate lifting effect can often be seen. The product then gets to work, stimulating the cells in the adipose layer. A second treatment is required 30 days later to continue the process and achieve visible results.
There is minimal downtime, so you can go about your day after treatment.
Maintenance and Follow-up
Maintenance treatments are typically every four to six months to maintain the results, depending on a person’s individual response.
Who is suitable for Treatment?
We recommend Structura treatment for patients with well-defined structures that need superficial enhancement. It is a popular choice for those seeking natural, subtle improvements without a drastic change in facial volume.
There are different treatment protocols depending on how you have aged.
‘Saggers’ – heavier faces with skin descent due to laxity, slight jowl formation and flatting of the cheek. By injecting along their cheekbone and in front of their ear, we can achieve more reshaping in a natural, balanced manner. Profile 2.
Is Profhilo Structura Safe?
So far, studies have shown no concerning adverse events.
Patients have reported high satisfaction and have also shown an increase in skin thickness and texture.
Can I combine Structura with other treatments?
It can be used alongside other aesthetic treatments, including Botox and Fillers. Treating each layer of the face according to its needs ensures a holistic improvement for best results.
Polynucleotide (PN) skin rejuvenation treatments have gained significant attention in aesthetic medicine. They involve a revolutionary, non-invasive procedure for enhancing skin texture and appearance. Based on utilising biological substances to stimulate tissue regeneration, PN treatments have emerged as a promising solution for individuals seeking to revitalise their skin without resorting to more invasive procedures.
What are Polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides are the building blocks of DNA molecules. They have been used since the 1950s for burn and wound healing and are known to possess bioactive properties that can aid in repairing and rejuvenating damaged skin.
They have been created synthetically or can be from animal origin. The most common products available for skin rejuvenation are extracted from salmon or trout sperm. The DNA is purified so that patients with fish allergies are still suitable for treatment.
Nucleofill and Plenhyage are created from Salmon DNA fragments, and Plinest is made from Trout DNA fragments.
How do Polynucleotides work?
When injected into the dermal layer of the skin, the PN DNA fragments act as signalling agents that stimulate fibroblasts and trigger the body’s natural regenerative processes, promoting cellular regeneration. This results in collagen and elastin synthesis and the production of essential structural proteins and hyaluronic acid, which improve hydration and moisture retention, restoring youthful skin characteristics.
As a result, patients may observe a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. They also can create a healthier complexion and reduce the visibility of skin imperfections such as pigmentation irregularities and scars.
The gradual and cumulative effects of polynucleotide skin rejuvenation treatments make them a preferred option for individuals seeking gradual but noticeable improvements in their skin quality.
How long do the results of Polynucleotides last?
The results of PN treatments may generally last several months to a year. The average response lasts for six to nine months.
The duration of the effects of PN Treatments varies depending on the specific type of PN used, individual response to the treatment, and the initial condition of the skin. The longevity of their effects also depends on the body’s natural ageing process and environmental factors.
Which areas can Polynucleotides Treat?
PNs can revitalise the skin on all areas of the face and body.
Face: To improve facial skin’s texture, tone, and elasticity. They can help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of ageing, resulting in a more youthful and radiant complexion.
Neck and décolletage: The delicate skin on the neck and décolletage can also benefit from PN treatments, helping to tighten and firm the skin in these areas and reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Hands: PN therapy can be used to rejuvenate the skin on the hands, minimising the visible signs of ageing, such as thinning skin, wrinkles, and age spots, thereby improving the overall texture and appearance of the hands.
Body: PN treatments can also be applied to various areas of the body, such as the arms, abdomen, and thighs, to promote skin regeneration, improve elasticity, and reduce the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks.
Scalp: In recent years, PN treatments have gained attention for their potential to promote hair growth and improve scalp health. When administered to the scalp, PN therapy can help strengthen hair follicles and stimulate hair growth, contributing to thicker and healthier-looking hair.
How many Treatments will I need?
Most people require three treatment sessions in total.
We recommend one session (2ml) every 14- 21 days.
Contraindications to Polynucleotide Treatment
Pregnancy
Breast Feeding
Active skin infections
Patients with the following conditions can sometimes be treated with caution:
Blood Thinning Medication
Autoimmune conditions
What side effects can I expect after a PolyNucleotide Skin Rejuvenation Treatment?
During treatment, you will experience pin-prick bleeding and sometimes itchiness.
For several days, you can expect the following in the treatment area:
redness
slight swelling
Bruising
Occasionally, the bruising and swelling can last longer.
After Care
Avoid touching the treated area for at least 12 hours
Avoid Makeup for 24hrs
Avoid direct sun exposure
SPF to protect the area and prevent further skin ageing.
No facial treatments for two weeks
Who Performs Polynucleotide Treatments at Cheshire Lasers?
The following Doctors and Nurses perform Polynucleotide treatments at Cheshire Lasers:
Dr Kyra Drinnan uses Plenhyage but can also use Nucleophill.
Dr Hazlehurst uses mainly Plinest, Newest and Plenhyage but can also use Nucleophill
Polynucleotide skin rejuvenation treatments represent a breakthrough in the field of aesthetic medicine, offering a safe and effective solution for individuals looking to revitalise their skin’s youthful characteristics. By harnessing the regenerative potential of PN molecules, these treatments stimulate collagen synthesis, enhance skin hydration, and promote overall skin health, leading to a more radiant and youthful complexion. As the field of aesthetic medicine continues to evolve, polynucleotide skin rejuvenation is poised to remain a prominent player in the quest for achieving natural and long-lasting skin rejuvenation.
At Cheshire Lasers, we use Dermaforce to deliver RadioFrequency (RF) Microneedling. This advanced treatment combines microneedling with Radiofrequency (RF) technology to effectively treat a large number of cosmetic concerns, with excellent results.
This combination treatment has become more and more popular recently due to improvements in the way the technology is used to deliver better results. It is also more popular due to its extensive coverage on social media and in the press.
How RadioFrequency Microneedling Works
Insulated fine gold-plated needles deliver Bi-Polar Radio Frequency (RF) into the skin. The depth of the treatment varies depending on the skin concerns that need treating. The radiofrequency energy heats the tissue in the region of 55 – 65°C and, depending on the depth, will stimulate cell renewal, new collagen, increased hydration and resurfacing.
How is New Collagen Stimulated?
The energy/heat released into the skin causes immediate trauma to the existing mature, dehydrated collagen cells causing contraction and damage to this tissue. This damage stimulates a fibroblast action (fibroblasts are the connective tissue cells that produce collagen and elastin) which results in the production of new collagen and an increase in the diameter of the collagen fibres. The spaces between the fibres are also reduced.
This result causes an increased density of the dermal layer giving a skin-tightening effect.
What Can RadioFrequency Microneedling Treat?
Loose and Sagging Skin
Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Pitted Skin
Uneven skin texture
Stretch Marks
Which areas can it treat?
We usually recommend a full-face treatment rather than treating specific facial areas. However, we can focus more on specific areas if they need more improvement.
Areas that RF Microneedling work well on include:
Crows feet
Neck and décolletage
Perioral/ Mouth area
Jowls and jawline
Large pores

What is a RF Microneedling Treatment Like?
The treatment can be uncomfortable due to the needling and the heat generated. We can reduce the discomfort by applying anaesthetic cream before your treatment.
During the treatment, your skin will go red and will start to feel warm, like sunburn.
During Treatment
Shortly after Treatment
You will see red squares on your skin due to heat energy and the vacuum in the handpiece. These squares usually go in a few hours, but sometimes it can take a few days for them all to go from the face, and even longer after body treatments.

The CACI Hand Rejuvenation Treatment is CACI’s newest treatment which treats the hands with a unique combination of their new Rejuvenating Hand Mask and Electro Glove technology.
Hands can be one of the first areas to display signs of ageing, they are also constantly exposed to the elements often causing the skin to become sun- damaged, dry, cracked and dehydrated.
This treatment will leave your hands feeling silky smooth and looking visibly softer and more youthful.
What Does the CACI Hand Rejuvenation Treatment Involve?
It involves the application of the CACI Rejuvenating Hand Masks, then inserting the hands into the CACI Electro Gloves (made from a special electrically conductive material). The Gloves are then connected to the CACI machine, which produces tiny electrical impulses which deliver the rejuvenating effect.
The Hand mask is an intensive skin conditioning glove which contains powerful ingredients, including Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolysed Collagen and Shea Butter. These ingredients help combat the sign of ageing by softening the skin and smoothing the appearance of fine lines.
The electrical pulses help deliver the product into the skin and boost the circulation, as well as stimulate collagen. This improves skin firmness and also leaves your hands feeling soft, supple and rehydrated.
How Often Should I Have a treatment?
You can have a course of treatments. Similar to other CACI treatments, a course of 10 is usually required for best results, ideally two a week.
However, you can have a one-off treatment to give your hands a treat and enhance their hydration.
How Long Does the CACI Hand Rejuvenation Treatment Take?
The treatment takes 30 minutes.
You can have the treatment on its own, but it is more popular as an add-on treatment as we can treat your hands at the same time as some of our CACI facial treatments. This means the total treatment time is only an extra 10 minutes.
The Ultimate Hand Rejuvenation Treatment
The Ultimate Hand Rejuvenation Treatment involves the above CACI hand treatment combined with our popular Biorepeel TCA peel.
This treatment Combines the CACI Hand Rejuvenation with a Biorepeel.
The peel component improves collagen stimulation and resurfaces the skin, improving skin tone and texture while reducing pigmentation.
This treatment takes 40 mins but is 20 minutes as an add-on treatment.
It can be performed every two to three weeks, and you can perform the standard CACI treatment in between.
Which CACI Treatments can I add the Hand Treatment to?
What is the pHformula Oily and Congested Treatment?
The pHformula Oily and Congested Resurfacing Facial Treatment is a powerful yet gentle treatment for oily and congested skin types. This treatment provides exfoliation while maintaining the skin’s moisture barrier. It is an anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory treatment aimed at decongesting the skin and regulating oil production while still providing hydration. The strength of the treatment can be tailored to you. We usually start with a gentle facial treatment, which is more like an exfoliating facial and depending on your response, we can use stronger resurfacing ingredients to optimise your results.
This treatment can also brighten the skin and also address ageing concerns.
What does the pHformula Oily and Congested Treatment Involve?
STEP 1:
Cleanse the skin using E.X.F.O. cleanse.
E.X.F.O. cleanse contains active ingredients which assist in loosening rough dead skin cells while being hydrating and anti-inflammatory.
STEP 2:
Degrease the skin using S.K.I.N. primer.
This assists in cleansing and degreases the skin to guarantee optimum penetration of active ingredients.
STEP 3 (OPTIONAL):
25-minute DERMALUX treatment. (Select Dermalux add-on when booking)
DERMALUX uses colour wavelengths of visible light, which stimulate skin cells to repair and rejuvenate and also neutralise bacteria. Dermalux uses red light, blue light and infrared light. Blue light, in particular, can have a powerful effect on oily and congested skin, helping to kill bacteria, reduce acne, shrink pores and fight infection.
STEP 4:
SP Complex.
This gentle resurfacing complex exfoliates the skin and prepares it for further treatments by opening the cellular delivery channels. This allows better penetration of the active ingredients in the next steps and aids in activating the skin’s regeneration response. Here, we assess your skin sensitivity on a scale of 1-10, should you wish to move on to one of the stronger pHformula treatments next time.
Upon application of the complex, there will be a mild stinging sensation.
STEP 5:
Mask or Resurfacing treatment.
A mask is chosen to suit your skin concerns and sensitivity and whether you would like a facial or a resurfacing treatment. A popular treatment we may use here is the I.N.S.T.A.N.T. Resurfacing Mask, it leaves the skin radiant and glowing. Salicylic acid assists in superficial exfoliation and cell renewal. It provides tighter pores and skin texture. Impurities are absorbed without removing natural oils. Ferulic acid and Vitamin E provide an antioxidant effect to brighten discoloured skin. It also aids the skin’s ability to heal, repair, and protect itself from environmental damage. The mask is left on for up to 15 minutes.
STEP 6:
Removal of the Mask and Extraction Treatment.
Once again, we use E.X.F.O. cleanse to remove the mask and help with extractions for up to 5 minutes.
STEP 7:
V.I.T.A. C Radiance Release Treatment.
V.I.T.A. C radiance release contains a complex of pure L-ascorbic acid, Retinol, and Hyaluronic acid. It also contains the pHformula special delivery complex, which enhances the penetration of the ingredients to the deeper layers of the skin. This makes sure the treatment is at optimum potency to make sure the best results can be achieved.
This aids in skin hydration, promotes cell turnover, offers antioxidant properties, triggers collagen production, increases rate of skin repair, encourages circulation and offers UV protection.
Step 8:
Post Recovery Cream and SPF.
How much is a pHformula Oily and Congested Treatment?
We discuss your skin and perform a sensitivity test and a gentle exfoliating facial to determine your future skin needs for further facial or more advanced resurfacing treatments.
What are pHformula CR (Chronic Redness) Treatments?
pHformula CR Treatments include home products and clinic prescription facials for treating chronic redness. They can improve a range of red skin problems due to inflammation or a breakdown in the skin barrier function
Skin Redness can develop due to various skin changes; treatments vary depending on the cause. Find out more here.
What does the Chronic Redness Facial Treatment do?
At Cheshire Lasers, we provide a tailored facial treatment to address red inflamed skin. Once we have treated your skin once or twice, we can slowly increase the potency of the treatment according to your skin’s reaction and can perform a more substantial resurfacing treatment rather than our gentle facial.
Whichever treatment we use our aim is to:
Reduce redness
Reduce inflammation
Increase cellular turnover
Improve collagen
Strengthen the capillary walls
Smooth skin texture
Clearer, brighter skin
What does the CR Facial Treatment involve?
The CR treatment is like a regular facial, except the ingredients target chronic redness.
The treatment takes about 50 minutes and is a relaxing experience like any other facial. However, it also includes a gentle resurfacing step, which can cause slight stinging tingling for a few minutes. Despite the slight irritation during treatment, this step works from within to improve red skin and rarely causes any visible peeling or irritation after treatment.
For more detailed information, view the bottom of this page.
How do I arrange a Chronic Redness Facial?
Arrange a skin assessment consultation with one of our Aestheticians. They will assess your skin and advise if your redness suits this facial treatment.
If you are suitable, they will give you some products to try on your skin and schedule your first treatment.
They will also recommend you use some home care products for the best results.
If you are not suitable for this treatment, they will advise you about our wide range of other treatments that may suit your skin better. They will also give you samples to try.
What does the CR Home Regime involve?
We will recommend CR home treatment first, although prescriptions can vary according to an individual skin:
