Skin Rejuvenation – What Works?

skin rejuvenation Cheshire

At Cheshire Lasers, we provide many treatments for Skin Rejuvenation.

You can achieve brighter, younger skin using chemical or physical agents to increase the skin’s cell turnover, stimulate collagen production, reduce lines and wrinkles and even skin tone.

Cheshire Lasers Clinic provides a variety of rejuvenation treatments to suit different skin types and skin concerns; for optimum results, you may need a combination of treatments.

There are so many for you to choose from:

Radiofrequency Skin Tightening

Radiofrequency technology stimulates collagen, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and reducing the saggy appearance of skin. It, therefore, tightens plumps and brightens skin.
Cheshire Lasers has two Radiofrequency devices, Thermaclinic, which is excellent for treating eyes, upper lips and full faces. Endymed works deeper and is the best for treating the cheeks and neck area.

Radiofrequency Microneedling

Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling uses the most advanced technology to improve skin texture and tone and promote collagen growth to deliver plump, healthy, firmer-looking skin. It is excellent for improving ageing skin and scars but also has an impressive lifting-tightening effect. It works well all over the face, including the fine lines around the mouth and eyes.

CACI Microcurrent

CACI microcurrent treatments are “the original non-surgical facelift”. They involve the use of applying tiny microcurrents to re-educates your muscles. The treatments lift sagging muscles; tone and tighten; improve the colour and texture of the skin; stimulate collagen production, and help delay the ageing process.

Microneedling

Microneedling is an excellent treatment for skin tightening, reducing lines and wrinkles, reducing pore size, reducing scars and general skin rejuvenation.
At Cheshire Lasers, our specialists use two electronic needle devices for skin rejuvenation. They deliver less painful treatments with less downtime than the usual Dermaroller treatments.

Microdermabrasion

This medical-grade treatment removes the entire stratum corneum and helps reduce the superficial signs of ageing. In addition, repeated microdermabrasion treatments at regular intervals may influence how the lower layers of skin grow and remove deeper blemishes over time.

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment that brightens the skin to give an instant glow. A  sterile scalpel is used to gently and safely remove dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin (epidermis). It leaves the skin more receptive to serums and moisturisers. It also increases cell renewal and collagen and elastin production, delivering a more youthful and rejuvenated complexion.
This treatment removes the vellus hair (peach fuzz) on the skin’s surface. The result is silky smooth skin so that you can apply makeup flawlessly.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Using the Intense Pulsed Light system, we can reduce signs of ageing caused by sun damage. For example, we can reduce or even remove blemishes such as brown spots (pigmentation) and redness (thread veins).

Ultraformer MF2 Wrinkle treatment

Sensitive areas around the eye, mouth and forehead can be easily treated with ultrasound technology. In addition; the newly developed MF2 Ultraformer Treatment stimulates collagen to reduce fine lines and wrinkles in these areas.

Chemical Peels

Our aesthetic technicians can perform a variety of peels, including BioRepeel,  ZO Peels and Obagi Blue Radiance Peels. Aesthetic nurse Moira performs the Perfect Peel for people who want to peel much deeper. Dr Kyra Drinnan performs the pHformula TCA Touch peel.

Dermalux LED Therapy

At Cheshire Lasers, we have the Dermalux LED skin rejuvenation treatment in red, infrared and blue. This allows us to treat you with 2 or 3 lights simultaneously. The red and infrared lights are great for anti-ageing and skin rejuvenation. TBluelight is excellent for reducing oily skin and bacteria in acne sufferers.

Profhilo

Profhilo is an injectable treatment which stimulates collagen and elastin in the top layers of the skin. After a course of treatments, the skin becomes plumper and more hydrated, and it can even bring about some lifting and firming of the skin.

The Hydrafacial

The “HydraFacial” combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection simultaneously. This hydrafacial delivers clearer, more beautiful skin with no discomfort or downtime. The treatment is soothing, moisturising, non-invasive and non-irritating.

Injectable Collagen Stimulators

Using Injectable Collagen Stimulators like Sculptra, Ellanse and Harmonica.  Your skin can appear more firmer, tighter and hydrated, and they can also add volume for a lifting effect.

Injectable Skin Boosters

Using injectable skin-boosting ingredients such as Profhilo, Polynucleotides like Nucleophil, PRP and Restylane Vital. Your skin can appear more hydrated, plump and fresh after a course of treatments.

ZO Skin Health

Our amazing ZO Skin Health Products can rejuvenate the skin from the outside in.

Pigmentation Removal

pigmentation image Cheshire treatment laser

At Cheshire Lasers Clinic we are often asked: “How can you remove my pigmentation?”

There are many types of pigmentation with lots of different causes; some can be treated more easily than others. At Cheshire Lasers, we also have many different treatments that can help you.

The way we treat your pigmentation is based on:

  • It’s cause
  • Your skin type
  • Most importantly; your preferences

How do I decide which Pigmentation treatment to choose from?

At Cheshire Lasers, we offer a wide range of pigmentation removal products and treatments. This makes it hard to decide what to do.

Some treatments work quicker and are better than others. However, these treatments also tend to cause more side effects, more downtime and are more aggressive.

The gentler treatments tend to take much longer to work. You, therefore, have to be patient and make sure you follow the recommended treatment protocol.

Why have I got Pigmentation?

Your skin gets its colour from a pigment called melanin. Special cells called melanocytes in the skin make melanin. When these cells become damaged or if they are activated for any reason, it affects melanin production.

Pregnancy, Addison’s disease, sun exposure and some medication such as the combined pill can all make your skin darker.

Your genes often have something to do with your pigmentation with some of us being born with freckles. If you have a darker skin tone such as Asian, Mediterranean or African, you are usually more prone to pigmentation problems.

You are also more prone to pigmentation if you have had excessive sun exposure.

Post-Inflammatory Pigmentation (PIH) can arise if your skin is chronically inflamed – it can be common in people who battle with dermatitis/eczema, acne and Addison’s disease. PIH can also occur after a single episode of trauma.

Once you have pigmentation, you can treat it and reduce it.  You can also prevent it by wearing very high sun protection and avoiding harmful sun rays. However, treatment does not usually mean you will be free of it forever. Pigmentation generally will always come back, if you continue with the same lifestyle.

If you have problem pigmentation often lifestyle measures and maintenance treatments are required to keep it under control.

At Cheshire Lasers, Pigmentation Removal Treatments are provided by:

Dr Teri Johnson

Dr Teri Johnson uses the topical prescription systems provided by The Obagi NuDerm system or ZO Skin Health Medical System for moderate to severe pigmentation problems. She also uses the popular Cysteamine Cream, which is her first choice for moderate to severe pigmentation problems in darker skin or with Melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Natasha Tavernor, Level 4 Laser / IPL Technician.

Natasha uses IPL and sometimes the ND Yag to treat pigmentation with our Lynton Lumina ASQ system.

She also uses Cysteamine Cream, an excellent home treatment for specific skin types and problems. Natasha also uses the ZO Medical system for pigmentation problems. However, she is only able to recommend Skin Health products.  The ZO Medical topical products are available on prescription only.

Natasha also performs various facials, peels and resurfacing treatments (listed below) designed to improve mild to moderate pigmentation.

Aesthetic Nurse Moira Grobiki

Moira performs the Perfect Peel, a moderately aggressive peel that can help moderate pigmentation problems.

What do I do if I want pigmentation removal at Cheshire Lasers?

We recommend an initial consultation with one of our specialists for pigmentation problems before starting any treatment.

It is helpful to know what sort of treatment you are interested in so we can book you with the right person.

If you are considering starting any pigmentation treatment, ensure you are not planning sun exposure for the next few months. If you go out in the sun, you will need to cover the area with a very high factor of sun protection and keep the area covered.

The sun will stimulate pigmentation and undo the results of your treatments. It can also increase the risk of complications in your treatment.

During your consultation

We will examine your skin, take a medical history and help you decide on the most suitable treatment for you. We will also discuss the risks, costs and recovery period associated with the procedures you are considering.

Treatments for Pigmentation Removal at Cheshire Lasers:

Treatments for Mild Pigmentation:

We have a wide range of treatments available to help mild pigmentation such as the BioRePeel, phFormula Mela TreatmentsBlue Radiance Peel, ZO Peels, Hydrafacial, Dermalux light and Microneedling. We tend to recommend these treatments if you have other skin concerns that the treatment will also address or if the pigment is very pale and is not of any concern.

Treatments for Problematic Pigmentation:

At Cheshire Lasers, the following treatments are the most effective for problematic pigmentation.

IPL and Laser

Age spots, pigmentation caused by sun damage and freckles respond nicely to our advanced IPL Lumina system. Our IPL treatment is fantastic for small spots and patches of pigment. If the response is poor, we can use the ND Yag laser instead.

This treatment is usually only suitable for skin types 1 to 3.

Before starting treatment, we may recommend you use a lightening skin product from one of our skincare product ranges 2- 6 weeks before starting an IPL or Laser treatment. This is often required for skins that are darker or are more prone to pigmentation.

For IPL and Laser treatment, please book a consultation with Natasha, our laser technician. She can advise how to proceed and if you are ready to go ahead with the treatment, she can do a test patch at the time of the consultation.

Cysteamine Cream

Cystamine is a skin-lightening agent used to treat hyperpigmentation disorders such as age spots, melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

This novel treatment is a highly effective alternative to prescription treatments such as hydroquinone and tretinoin. It can be used in all skin types, including dark skin and is a great option for stubborn pigmentation, including melasma and post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Find out more about Cysteamine Cream here.

To discuss Cysteamine Cream book a consultation with Natasha or Anna here.

Prescription Lightening Products

We can also treat pigmentation with topical prescription products. At Cheshire Lasers, we use the famous Obagi NuDerm system or the ZO Medical System. Created by the same doctor, they both give fantastic results as long as you have the patience to use them.

These systems give fantastic results with Melasma; even after a few weeks use, the pigment usually looks so much better. You need to continue on the system for 18 weeks, after which your skin usually looks great. After 18 weeks, you must go on to a simpler maintenance regime to avoid rebound pigmentation. If you suddenly stop the treatment, the pigment usually comes back. Occasionally stubborn Melasma may need a peel to complete the treatment on this system.

For Prescription products, book with Dr Teri Johnson for a consultation.

The Perfect Peel

Some people prefer to treat their pigmentation with a peel. This is usually recommended if you have large areas of pigmentation. The advantages of the perfect peel is the minimal downtime compared to IPL and lasers, and the process is pain-free.
After one application age spots are remarkably lighter and many people are happy. However, a course of 3 peels may be required for stubborn pigment or if you want the pigment to be unnoticeable.

The ingredients not only improve pigmentation but also increase collagen and elastin production, resulting in skin that is brighter and tighter. Find out more about the perfect peel here.

The Perfect Peel can be used on its own for Melasma in fair-skinned patients. Peels should be used very carefully for darker skin types and often a combination of treatments are required as they are associated with a risk of post‑inflammatory hyperpigmentation after any skin injury. Hence a consultation is required before having this peel.

For the Perfect Peel, please book a consultation with Aesthetic Nurse Moira or Dr Priyanka.

Find out more information about how to treat different types of Pigmentation conditions here.

Preventing Pigmentation

The challenge of treating Melasma and pigmentation is that it commonly relapses after treatment.

The most important way of preventing pigmentation is to wear good sun protection all year round and a sun block in the Summer.

Try and avoid any other triggers that may stimulate the problem.

To prevent Melasma and stubborn pigmentation returning maintenance therapy is required. You can opt for repeat treatments once the pigment has returned. However, we usually recommend selected topical skin care. If you start it immediately after treatment with regular reviews at the clinic in case your regime needs changing, we can help you manage the pigmentation to reduce the risk of it returning.

For a more holistic approach, there is increasing evidence that diet has a significant impact on skin inflammation, post-inflammatory acne, and Melasma. If you struggle with pigmentation and can not get it under control. We highly recommend an assessment with Dr Priyanka at Cheshire Lasers to look at your Pigmentation, your removal treatments so far and to explore this holistic approach.

Thread Vein Treatments

At Cheshire Lasers, we provide thread vein removal treatments for the tiny veins found on the face and legs.

These red veins are also called thread veins or spider veins. They are the tiny visible veins that can be red, purple or blue in appearance and have a web-like appearance. Their web-like appearance is what inspired the name ‘spider veins’.

facial thread vein removal Cheshire

What is the best Thread Vein Removal Treatment for Facial Thread veins?

1. Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments

Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatments are one of the most effective treatments for the removal of facial veins. The treatment involves directing light at the veins from outside the skin, this light damages the vein which stimulates the body to remove it.

These treatments also reduce redness on the face in the area around the vein. They also treat spider naevi and cherry angiomas located anywhere on the body.

At Cheshire Lasers our NVQ Level 4 IPL and Laser technician performs all our Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) facial thread vein removal treatments .

Laser and IPL treatments require no sun exposure or suntan for at least 4 weeks before and after each treatment if you can not avoid a suntan you may want to consider electrocautery or electrolysis for thread veins.

2. Electrocautery and Electrolysis

Advanced electrocautery and Advanced electrolysis are also very effective treatments for removing thread veins. It involves inserting a very fine needle into the thread veins and applying a tiny amount of electric current. The needle destroys all the tissue it touches and the body then heals and repairs the area . Advanced electrocautery is performed by Aesthetic Nurse Moira and Dr Kathryn Hazlehurst. Advanced electrolysis is performed by Aesthetician Helena Fryer.

What is the best Thread Vein Removal Treatment for Leg Thread veins?

Sclerotherapy is the gold standard treatment for leg veins. This is an injectable treatment that can treat the entire vein. Studies show that sclerotherapy is more effective and the results last longer when compared to laser or IPL for treating leg thread veins.

At Cheshire Lasers, Moira Grobicki Aesthetic Nurse performs Sclerotherapy thread vein removal.

leg thread vein removal Cheshire

You can find out more about Sclerotherapy thread vein removal at Cheshire Lasers here.

Why is Sclerotherapy better for Leg thread vein removal?

Leg thread veins can occur due to ageing, sun exposure and trauma to the skin. However they also develop due to backwards blood flow from larger veins when the valves are no longer functioning properly. If these underlying faulty veins are untreated, they will cause more reflux in the healthier veins causing them to dilate and cause more unsightly thread veins.

The light used to treat the veins with laser and IPL can only treat the veins close to the skin surface. Treating these superficial thread veins in the skin without treating the deeper incompetent veins can cause spider vein treatment to fail.

Sclerotherapy can address some of these deeper thread veins as well.

Do you treat Varicose Veins?

Cheshire Lasers does not provide varicose vein treatments. Varicose veins are much more complex to treat and are a vascular surgeon is the best person to treat them.

Several of our clients have highly recommended the Vein Centre which is a specialist centre that treats only veins. They have two clinics close to Cheshire one in Manchester and the other in Stoke on Trent. The Vein Centre’s website explains which treatments are available for varicose veins and how they work.

Varicose veins treatments available include:

Neck Rejuvenation and Turkey Neck Treatments

Neck Rejuvenation treatments at Cheshire Lasers Middlewich

Neck Rejuvenation and Turkey Neck Treatments at Cheshire Lasers

Our face and body do not age evenly. There are areas, such as the neck, where the skin is thinner, which can show signs of premature ageing. After the eye area, the skin on the neck is the most delicate. It contains far fewer elastin fibres than the face, resulting in a weaker supporting structure. The neck also lacks fatty tissue, which gives support to the skin.

As we age, women, in particular, can lose their long slender necks as the jawline becomes heavier, leading to a double chin. The skin can become thin and crepey, developing fine lines and deeper wrinkles. The skin also loses its elasticity, becoming loose and saggy, known unflatteringly as ‘turkey neck’.

Necklines can appear as part of the natural ageing process. Our natural skin cell turnover decreases as we age, and the collagen we naturally produce depletes. This, as well as exposure to the sun and neglect of the neck in our daily routines, can cause necklines to become more prominent and add age to our overall appearance.

The neck is often one of the most exposed areas of the body, and therefore, it is essential to protect it against damage. A moisturising cream with SPF 30 or higher should be applied daily to ensure that the neck does not become dehydrated and is protected against harmful UV rays from the sun.

Most men and women seeking treatment for the neck area are looking to firm, tighten and lift loose, sagging skin, reduce fine lines, improve the jawline, and prevent the appearance of wrinkles that deepen as we age.

Classically, the main concerns related to the neck and décolletage include:

  • Skin laxity
  • Fine lines,
  • Neck lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Crepey skin
  • Double chin
  • Turkey neck

Neck Rejuvenation Treatment choices:

At Cheshire Lasers, a wealth of minimally-invasive neck Rejuvenation Treatment options are available. This is where the value of a thorough initial assessment comes in to guide the best treatment choices for each patient’s individual needs.

The treatment options include injectable treatments, energy devices such as Radiofrequency or HIFU or high-quality topical cosmeceutical treatments.

Injectable Treatments and Threadlifts:

Botulinum toxin – ‘Nefertiti lift’

Named after the famous youthful jawline of the Egyptian queen, the Nefertiti neck lift involves injections of botulinum toxin into the lower jaw and neckline. The amount of injections is variable depending on the muscle bulk and definition.
Best suited to patients with over active platysmal muscles pulling down the face or creating platysmal bands.

Dr Kyra Drinnan and Moira Grobiki perform this treatment.

Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid (HA)-based dermal fillers aim to replenish lost moisture and improve volume and elasticity, making them a suitable option for treating the delicate skin of the décolletage.
Alternatively, Ellanse can be used as a collagen stimulator to improve skin texture and tighten skin. The result is plumper, smoother, less wrinkly skin.
Compared to traditional HA dermal filler injection, the treatment involves superficial micro injections of filler to create small blebs along the valley of wrinkles.

Profhilo

Profhilo is a skin booster engineered for ‘skin remodelling’. It is made from hyaluronic acid, like many dermal fillers. However, rather than filling lines, it  to promotes collagen and elastin growth to reduce skin laxity and also boosts skin hydartion.

Profhilo’s unique characteristics make it an excellent treatment for neck rejuvenation. It improves skin texture and laxity easily in 2 sessions, with a 1-month interval. Profhilo is suitable for practically anyone, men and women, from 30 years old and with no upper age limit. Some people require a third treatment best results.

This treatment is slightly uncomfortable but is quick and easy to perform.

Dr Teri Johnson, Dr Kyra Drinnan and Moira Grobiki perform this treatment.

Skin Boosters

Cheshire Lasers now offers a range of injectable skin Boosters including PRP which are alternatives to Dermal Fillers.

Non-Invasive Energy Devices:

The following treatments stimulate the production of collagen in the skin. This increase in collagen helps strengthen the skin and improve wrinkles, tone, texture and laxity.

The following Neck Rejuvenation treatments are performed by our aestheticians at Cheshire Lasers:

Ultraformer III

Ultraformer III uses High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) with the newest paradigm of advanced technology – MMFU (Micro Macro Focused Ultrasound)

At Cheshire Lasers Clinic, the Ultraformer Neck Rejuvenating treatment delivers the best treatment for a turkey neck. It is very good at lifting and tightening the sagging jowl area. It slims the fatty pockets under the chin and jowl that pull the face and neck down, while stimulating collagen and elastin to tighten the skin.

The technology creates a lift in the skin and at the deep muscle layer (SMAS) underneath. Previously this area was reached only by a surgical facelift. It rarely cause any downtime and most people require just one treatment.

Some people find this treatment uncomfortable.

Find out more about Ultraformer III here.

RF Microneedling

RF Microneedling delivers energy under the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin using the power of radiofrequency and microneedling. It is an excellent treatment for neck rejuvenation, as it not only stimulates the growth of collagen but also resurfaces the skin.

The downtime is very short, usually 6 to 24 hours.

You may need up to three treatments to achieve the best results.

The treatment is uncomfortable, similar to Ultraformer;  however, we apply topical anaesthesia to improve the discomfort.

Find out more about RF Microneedling here

Radiofrequency

At Cheshire Lasers, we use Endymed or the ThermaClinic radiofrequency machines for Neck Rejuvenation.

Radiofrequency energy gently promotes collagen production and contraction of collagen fibres. This restructures, rejuvenates and tightens the skin. Most people require a course of 6 treatments for the best results.

Radiofrequency is a comfortable, safe treatment which can be quite relaxing.

The Endymed is a more advanced machine that penetrates slightly deeper than the ThermaClinic and is slightly more expensive.

Topical Treatments for the Neck

At Cheshire Lasers, we recommend and stock the following products for the neck:

NeoStrata Skin Active Triple Firming Neck Cream.

pHformula Neck Cream

ZO Skin Health Growth Factor Serum Plus.

Combination Therapy:

Many treatments work best synergistically, so exploring the combination treatment option is helpful.

For best results, consider one of the following treatments for collagen production.

Then, depending on your needs, combine this with injectable treatments such as Botox to relax the neck muscles or Profhilo for extra hydration.

Consider skin resurfacing or skin peels for the skin texture

Do not forget to enhance the results with optimum skincare.

Hand Rejuvenation

Dermal filler hand rejuvenation Cheshire

Do your hands give away your age?

No part of the body will tell the story of your age more readily than your hands. The hands suffer environmental damage, and often have less protection than the rest of your body. Dryness, poor skin texture, age spots, uneven skin tone, visible veins, fine lines and wrinkles can all add to the general age appearance of your hands.

Want to know a person’s real age? Just look at their hands.

The natural fat cushion that we’re born with under the skin of the hands begins to lessen in our late twenties and early 30’s. By the time most of us hit 50, all the structures in the hand show up – the tendons, bones and veins.

Help is at Hand

Dr Teri Johnson and her team have been performing hand rejuvenation treatments since 2008. Over the years, they have tried and tested various treatments.

Hand Rejuvenation Treatments can address various concerns and include injectable and non-injectable treatments.

Non Injectable Hand Rejuvenation Treatments

Chemical Peels

Peels are great for fading age spots, smoothing the skin texture, and stimulating new collagen production in the upper skin layers.  At Cheshire Lasers Clinic, our favourite treatment for hands is the BioRePeel with TCA. The BioRePeel has a bio-stimulating, revitalising & peeling-like effect. A single treatment often delivers a visible improvement, but for best results, we recommend a course of three every 7 to 10 days.

Microneedling

Microneedling uses tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating collagen production and improving skin texture and tone. This treatment also is known for its ability to improve skin texture and can lead to a subtle improvement in pigmentation. At Cheshire Lasers, we use the EDS (Electronic Dermastamp) treatment.

Radiofrequency Microneedling

Radiofrequency microneedling combines the skin-renewing benefits of microneedling with the skin-tightening effects of radiofrequency energy.  The result is a more effective treatment for improving collagen production, skin texture and firmness. Cheshire Lasers uses Dermaforce to deliver controlled heat energy deep into the skin through tiny needles.  This stimulates more collagen production, often with less downtime than microneedling alone.

CACI Hand Rejuvenation

Using advanced microcurrent technology, CACI targets skin cells in the hands, stimulating collagen and elastin production. This non-invasive procedure tones, hydrates and firms the skin, reducing wrinkles and revealing smoother, younger-looking skin.

Laser and IPL Hand Treatment

Laser treatments, intense pulsed light (IPL) and fractional laser therapy can target age spots, sun damage, and uneven skin texture on the hands. They work by breaking down pigment and stimulating collagen production. Here at Cheshire Lasers, we mostly use our IPL on our Linton Lumina AQS System to improve skin texture and improve pigmentation on the hands.

Topical Treatments

It’s also important to consider topical treatment when rejuvenating the hands. Retinoids, vitamin C serums, and moisturizers containing ingredients like glycolic acid or niacinamide can help improve the appearance of the hands over time by boosting collagen production and reducing signs of ageing. Regularly applying hand creams containing sunscreen can help prevent further sun damage and protect the hands from ageing.

Injectable Hand Rejuvenation Treatments

Injectable hand rejuvenation treatments involve injecting products into the skin to create volume in the skin, increase hydration or stimulate collagen production. Most treatments have an effect on all three of these.

The following treatments have all been shown to rejuvenate the hands:

  1. Dermal Fillers: Dermal fillers, such as hyaluronic acid, plump up thin skin, give hydration, and minimise the appearance of wrinkles and veins.
  2. Collagen Stimulators: Radiesse, Ellanse and Sculptra all stimulate collagen, creating firmer, tighter, plumper skin.
  3. Skin Boosters: Restylane Vital, Profhilo, and Sunekos are examples of skin boosters they stimulate collagen and elastin production as well as hydrate the skin.
  4. Polynucleotides: Made from DNA, stimulate fibroblasts to create collagen and elastin; they also stimulate hydration and have an antioxidant effect.

It’s important to consult with a qualified dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon to determine the most suitable treatment options based on individual needs, skin type, and desired outcomes.

Combination Treatments:

Often, a combination of treatments may be recommended to achieve the best results. For example, combining dermal fillers with laser therapy or chemical peels can address multiple concerns simultaneously and provide more comprehensive rejuvenation.

Examples of Hand Rejuvenation Treatments.

Restylane Vital Skin Boosters

Restylane Vital Skin Boosters contains small molecules of hyaluronic acid filler. When injected under the skin, it improves skin elasticity and deep dermal hydration. By moisturising from within it diminishes the fine crepey lines to give a plump and hydrated appearance.
An initial, intense treatment usually comprises three sessions, 3-4 weeks apart. Each treatment involves a series of very fine micro-injections however Dr Teri is now using a cannula more often for this treatment.

Typically, a maintenance treatment would be required after around 3-4 months.

Advantages:
Restylane Vital remains in the skin for about 4-8 months if not longer. It attracts water for skin hydration and improves skin texture while volumising the skin to help reduce the appearance of unsightly veins and tendons.
It can be dissolved by hyaluronidase.

Disadvantages:
3 treatments are usually required, and regular maintenance every 3-4 months to keep the effect.
Bruising is very common if injected with a needle.

Find out more about Restylane Skin Boosters here.

Radiesse Hand Rejuvenation

Radiesse was launched in 2000 and is FDA approved. It is a non permanent Dermal Filler that contains calcium and phosphate based micro spheres. When injected under the skin micro spheres stimulate your skin to produce new collagen. It is, therefore, more commonly regarded as a collagen stimulator.

The product is injected directly into the skin with a cannula and then firmly massaged to ensure even coverage.

Radiesse gives an immediate improvement due to the presence of the filler. Over a few months, the results reduce slightly as the filler degrades. The results improve again as collagen production occurs creating a volume effect and an improvement in skin texture.

This treatment is great for volume loss to help cover veins and tendons in the hands.
You may only need one treatment. Although if you have older hands or hands with significant volume loss you may need a second treatment.

Advantages:
Typically, results last around 12 months.

You will need a maintenance treatment 9-15 months.

Disadvantages:
This product is not ideal for you if you have thin skin.
Radiesse filler is firm, so you need to apply strong, vigorous massage after treatment to reduce the risk of lumps after treatment.
The product does not give as much hydration.

Find out more about Radiesse hand rejuvenation here.

Profhilo Hand Rejuvenation

Profhilo is a revolutionary injectable product based on hyaluronic acid (HA). After injection, it slowly breaks down so it remains in the skin for up to 28 days. While in place, it stimulates the body’s processes for regenerating skin tissue. It hydrates the skin and stimulates all four types of collagen and elastin. Hence, is why we call it a ‘bio-rejuvenator’ or ‘bio-revitaliser’.

Most people need two treatments one month apart. Older skin or extremely delicate thin skin prone to tearing may need a third.

You will need a maintenance treatment after 4-6 months for best results.

Advantages:

It degrades quickly, which often suits people who like minimally invasive natural treatments.
Treatments are easy and quick and take only 15 to 20 minutes.
The treatment is the best for thin, crepey, delicate skin.

Disadvantages:
The hydration effect creates some volumisation of the skin.  However, this is often insufficient to cover visible veins and tendons due to fat loss under the skin.

Find out more about Profhilo here.

Aliaxin SR Hand Rejuvenation

Aliaxin SR is made by IBSA the same company that makes the revolutionary Profhilo. It contains 3 different hyaluronic acid molecules. One of which is the same as the one in Profhilo. The other two act more like a filler designed to hydrate, plump and volumise the skin.

Aliaxin SR is injected in the hands with a cannula. Gentle to moderate massage is then required to make sure the product is distributed evenly in the tissues.

You need one or two treatments for best results, one month apart.

If you have very thin skin a Profhilo treatment is recommended first.

You will need a maintenance treatment after around 6 months for best results.

Advantages:

This product is the best of all worlds, collagen stimulation in the skin itself to improve texture, elasticity. However it also gives volumisation, to plump and hydrated the skin due to the hyaluronic acid filler component.

Disadvantages:

You need to massage after treatment. Massage is not always possible in elderly frail skin unless this is improved first.

Stretch Marks

At Cheshire Lasers Clinic most of our Treatments for Stretch Marks are provided by Dr Priyanka.

What are Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks are the result of damage that occurs to the skin when it is stretched due to rapid growth, pregnancy or weight gain. Teenagers often suffer but so do bodybuilders who put on muscle bulk during exercise regimes.

The rapid stretching causes the middle layer of the skin known as the dermis to tear, and deeper skin layers show through.

Stretch marks are therefore like scars in the middle layer of your skin. Initially stretch marks appear red due to blood vessels under the dermis becoming visible. Over time, the red appearance reduces and the marks become a silvery colour.

Stretch marks often appear more visible when weight is lost as the fatty tissue in the skin often makes the problem less visible. Around 80% of women develop stretch marks in pregnancy, the appearance often can improve naturally over time.

Why have I got Stretch Marks?

Some people are more susceptible than others to stretch marks. They occur in both women and men of all races and skin types. Steroid therapy, and a family history of stretch marks increases your risk. Some people never develop any stretch marks, despite being exposed to excessive skin stretching.

Those who do suffer can understandably feel self-conscious about their bodies, which can lead to anxiety and low of self-esteem. Swimming and exposing the skin whilst on holiday can be awkward too.

How do I treat Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks are difficult to treat.

No one treatment can cure and get rid of them.

Not one treatment is better than another.

People respond differently to the different treatments and the response can not be predicted.

However Stretch Marks can be improved so the visible appearance is reduced.

At Cheshire Lasers we use the following treatments to improve the appearance of stretch marks:

Different people respond to different treatments, for severe stretch marks a combination of treatments is the best option.

Other treatments that may also help stretch marks include:

Pulsed dye laser treatment is one type of laser treatment available.

Laser Resurfacing

Cosmetic camouflage (make-up) is available over-the-counter at pharmacies. Great for small areas of skin affected by stretch marks. Some types are waterproof and last two to three days.

Cosmetic surgery for stretch marks is expensive and rarely recommended.

How do I book treatments for Stretch Marks at Cheshire Lasers Clinic?

First we recommend you book a consultation with Dr Priyanka she can assess your stretch marks. She will take a medical history and will then decide which treatment options would suit you best.

Dr Priyanka can then discuss your treatment options and the prices involved. She will provide you with a treat plan summarising her recommendations. A course of several different treatments are usually recommended for best results.

Should you decide to go ahead with the treatment we can book you in for your first treatment.

How does RRS Mesotherapy treatment work for Stretch Marks?

Mesotherapy treats stretch marks with a cocktail of ingredients that occur naturally in the body in order to promote healing and rejuvenation of the skin. The main ingredients are fibroblast growth factors, which heals and repairs the skin, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamin C and flavonoids which help the skin to rejuvenate.

These ingredients are already present in the body and so further injection just stimulates their actions as opposed to introducing foreign chemicals. One of the most important ingredients used is Silica. This is a mineral that naturally works in the body to correct tissue problems, including scar tissue and help strengthen its collagen fibres.

How many Mesotherapy treatments will I need?

Usually a course of six treatments – every 2 weeks.

How does Microneedling with Dermaroller or Dermapen improve Stretch Marks?

The objective with skin needling is to induce tiny pinprick injuries to the skin. These intentional ‘injuries’ induce thousands of tiny, controlled wound-healing responses. The bleeding induced brings various cellular actions including stimulating fibroblast activity and activating skin growth factors. This is the same response the skin makes to an injury and instigates the formation of new skin, collagen production and tissue remodeling.

To have a real effect on stretch marks the microneedle or roller would need to have needles of between 1.5 mm to 2.5mm long to penetrate into the scar tissue of the stretch mark! This is much longer than a home use roller which are typically 0.2mm to 0.5mm long.

A local anaesthetic cream is required for this treatment as needles of more than 0.3mm / 0.5mm long will reach the nerve endings in the skin and are therefore painful!

This collagen formation helps to smooth and fill in a stretch mark.
Several treatments are needed – depending upon the age and depth of the stretch marks.

How many Microneedling treatments will I need?

A course of 3 or more – every 6 weeks.

How does Carboxytherapy help for Stretch Marks?

Carboxytherapy involves superficially injecting tiny amounts of carbon dioxide gas (CO2) directly into the stretch mark with a tiny needle. The injected medical CO2 gas makes your skin ‘think’ there is an oxygen deficit and it responds by increasing blood flow to the skin and regeneration of tiny blood vessels in the skin. This will with time allow more oxygen and nutrients to reach the skin, which leads to improved elasticity, skin regeneration and tissue remodeling.

Carboxy is most effective on newer stretch marks which are still red. Old stretch marks need 5 to 10 treatments at three weekly intervals.

We recommend a treatment every two to three weeks.

Tretinoin and Vitamin A Derivatives:

Tretinoin often called by its brand name Retin-A, is a prescription-only treatment. It should not be used by pregnant or nursing women and can cause side effects such as redness and peeling.

Vitamin A derivatives such as retinol cause less side effects and a prescription is not needed, however, they need to be used in high enough doses to have an effect.

A 0.1 percent tretinoin (retinoic acid) cream was shown to help diminish early stretch marks in one study, but later results have shown mixed results.

Tretinoin can get through the upper layer of skin and rebuild collagen, which explains how it improves stretch marks for some people. It is more effective on new stretch marks, so early treatment is best. Once the marks have faded to white or silver, tretinoin may not be beneficial.

The ZO’s Body Emulsion Plus is the best body product available without a prescription. With ingredients like retinol, ceramides and emollients, it prevents moisture loss and allows your skin to regain its youthful appearance, texture and tone. Plus, the formulation contains an antioxidant-rich complex with lactic acid to soften rough patches. The Body Emulsion Plus works to perfectly exfoliate, hydrate and nourish for revived and smoother looking skin.
