Seborrhoeic Keratosis / Wart Removal

What are Seborrhoeic Keratosis / Warts?

Seborrhoeic Keratosis are harmless overgrowths of epidermal keratinocytes, that you can find anywhere on the skin, and the cause is unknown.

They have several different names, including seborrhoeic warts and basal cell papillomas.

Seborrhoeic keratosis have a rough surface and appear to be stuck on the skin. They can vary in colour from your normal skin colour to almost black most often occur on the stomach, chest and back and usually start to appear after the age of 40.

They are not true warts and are not contagious. However, they run in families, possibly due to genetics or skin type. They usually do not cause trouble, but occasionally, they can become inflamed, especially if knocked or caught in something like a zip.

Do Seborrhoeic Keratosis require treatment?

Seborrhoeic warts are usually harmless and, therefore, do not usually require treatment. However, some people arrange for their removal for cosmetic reasons. This is best done by scraping the wart away or by freezing it with liquid nitrogen.

How do you remove Seborrhoeic Keratosis?

At Cheshire Lasers Clinic Facial Surgeon Mr Will Allen and  Aesthetic Nurse Moira remove most Seborrhoeic Keratosis / Warts with a combination of cryotherapy and or electrocautery

Dark Circles

dark circles treatment Cheshire

What causes dark circles under the eyes?

Dark circles appear under the eyes for many reasons and may simply be a genetic condition. ‘Periorbital hyperchromia’ – is a technical name that refers to the area around the eye socket caused by excessive pigmentation and is one of the most common reasons for circles under the eyes seen in all ages.

Other people have the appearance of dark circles just due to their anatomy and the shape of the structures around the eyes. In certain lights, shadows are cast in any hollows and under any protruding eyelids or eyebags, which make the area look dark.

Other causes of Dark Circles include:

  • Dehydration of the skin cells makes dark circles more noticeable.
Simply drinking more water can bring about a marked reduction in the circles. Sometimes a topical B5 serum is needed to improve the skin’s hydration.
  • Stress / Lack of sleep: can make the skin appear more sunken or make eye bags look puffier, which can make dark circles more noticeable.
  • Drinking alcohol: The consumption of alcohol allows the small blood vessels in the skin to dilate or expand, so dark circles under the eyes may become more prominent. Dehydration also occurs, which adds to the problem.
  • Ageing: As people age, their skin becomes thinner due to a reduction of fat and collagen, making the blood vessels beneath it more noticeable, which thereby makes the area under the eyes appear darker. In addition, the ligaments under the eye weaken and in some people the fat loss causes the skin to sag and create a tear trough and sometimes a bag. These create a shadow on the skin, creating the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.
  • Pigmentation: The eyelids’ skin is often darker than that of the rest of the face. But in some people, this can be more pronounced. This can be genetic or caused by environmental factors. The most common cause is sun exposure. Pregnancy, hormones and trauma to the skin, such as excess rubbing of the eyes, can also increase pigmentation. A good SPF eye cream is recommended if you are at risk of high sun exposure.
  • Vascular congestion: This is an area containing many small blood vessels. In some people, these are congested, causing a somewhat purple discoloration. Patients who suffer from allergies could get venous congestion under the eye creating dark circles.

What can be done to improve dark circles?

To improve dark circles, you first need to understand the cause.

After this, the key is to work out if the causes are treatable or not. You can not change the shape of someone’s face however some simple causes can be improved.

Treatments to be considered include:

Concealer

The right coloured concealer applied in the right way can make a massive difference to dark circles. If you struggle to do this, it is worth booking in with a reputable makeup artist who can teach you how to do it more effectively.

Avoid Dehydration

Sometimes drinking more water or applying a B5 serum for hydration is all that is needed.

Treatments to reduce pigmentation:

Topical treatments can be applied to gently lighten the skin and an SPF can be applied to prevent further pigmentation for any sun exposure.

Neostrata Enlighten Brightening Eye Cream is very popular for this, as is ZO Eye Brightening Crème.
An eye SPF is also recommended to prevent further pigmentation caused by sun exposure.

Treatments to improve skin texture:

Improving the skin texture and stimulating increased collagen helps obscure the vessels under the skin that create the appearance of dark circles.

Topical treatments can be applied to stimulate collagen our most popular products for this are:

Collagen Stimulation

Collagen Stimulation using Radiofrequency technology can also be effective using the Endymed 3D Deep or ThermaClinic these treatments are relaxing and non invasive with no downtime but a course of 6 is required every 1- 2 weeks.

Ultraformer HIFU

Ultraformer HIFU treatment is a little bit more painful and more aggressive but is more effective. We recommend 3 treatments one every month.

The CACI Eye Revive

The CACI Eye Revive is a three step treatment that stimulates collagen using radiofrequency and also by infusing  products in to the skin that hydrate stimulating new collagen. It can give a temporary improvement after one treatment but for best results a course of treatments is recomended. It is also a great way of boosting the eye area before a special event.

PRP Treatment

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is one of the latest anti-ageing and skin rejuvenation procedures available and has the power to trigger your body’s own tissue regeneration potential. PRP is a naturally occurring component of your own blood. It encourages skin rejuvenation by stimulating the growth of your own collagen. It also improves the blood supply to the tissues and greatly improves skin tone and texture. PRP also reduces fine lines and wrinkles, all by stimulating your body’s own regeneration systems. PRP can be injected all around the eye to stimulate collagen and elastin. The regeneration process is gradual and natural and takes 2-3 months to develop after a single treatment. Two to three treatments, 2-3 months apart are recommended for most people for significant results.

Light Eyes Ultra

light eyes ultra CheshireLight Eyes Ultra has been around in the UK since 2020.

It contains a cocktail of hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, and botanical extracts formulated for the delicate eye area.

💉💉   The treatment involves multiple injections with a very fine needle tip.

Side effects include minimal swelling, redness and bruising, which usually subside over a few days.

It helps to brighten, firm, and refresh the area around the eyes.

This treatment is most suited for under-eye dark circles.

Most people require four treatments, two weeks apart.

This treatment is performed by Aesthetic Nurse Moira Grobicki and Dr Kyra Drinnan.

Treatments to improve Tear Troughs:

Tears develop due to soft tissue volume loss in the cheek and eye area. The ligaments of the lower eyelid weaken and the bony area under the eyelid becomes accentuated. This can also lead to the appearance of lower eyelid fat pockets (eye bags), and both of these changes can lead to a dark shadow or hollow beneath the eyes and can cause a tired appearance.

At Cheshire Lasers, we treat Tear Troughs with the following:

Dermal Fillers:

At Cheshire Lasers, we use hyaluronic acid Dermal Fillers to treat tear troughs. These fillers slowly break down over time, and in most patients, results can last a year. You may need a top-up procedure to achieve the best results.

Depending on your anatomy and your medical practitioner’s preference they may use Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero or Teosyal Redensity 2 a filler designed especially for the tear trough area.

PRP Treatment

PRP treatments for the under eye and the upper eyelid lead to stimulation of your own collagen and elastin and regeneration of new healthy skin tissue for gradual, natural and real results that improve in the 2-3 months following a single treatment.
We recommend two to three treatments, 2-3 months apart. PRP injection treatments below the skin in the under-eye area do not have immediate results. Unlike Dermal Fillers, which are instant, PRP is resorbed by your body within 2-3 days. There is then a gradual tissue regeneration which continues for months. You see the final results 3-4 months after each treatment. PRP treatments improve fine lines, texture, loose skin, loss of volume, deep wrinkles and some pigmentation.

Treatments to improve Eye Bags:

We can do very little at Cheshire Lasers to help with eye bags. In most cases, the best treatment is surgery.

Some of the treatments mentioned above can help, but the results are subtle and will not last long without regular treatments to maintain results.

The CACI Eye Revive

The CACI Eye Revive is our favourite non-surgical treatment for eye bags. It can give a temporary subtle improvement and is worth trying. If it helps, it is an excellent way to boost the eye area before a special event.

What can I do at home to enhance my results?

The skin under the eye is the thinnest of the face. As we age, the blood vessels underneath become visible and create a darkened reflection. Investing in an Eye Cream: that includes Retinol, Peptides, Caffeine, and Antioxidants is key. Retinol works by exfoliating dead skin cell leading to collagen production. Peptides applied topically send “signals” to through the skin to prompt the formation of new collagen. Caffeine constricts blood vessels which reduces puffiness and redness. Antioxidants (ex: Vitamin C or Green tea) offer powerful protection from the sun and also brighten the skin.

Please get in touch with us if you require more information about some of our medical-grade products to help the eye area.

Acne / Blackheads / Breakouts

At Cheshire Lasers, we have various acne treatments and products on offer,  to create a programme that will meet your individual needs.

What is Acne?

Acne is a common disorder of the skin’s sebaceous glands that results in clogged pores, whiteheads, blackheads, spots, inflammation of the skin and sometimes scarring.

Acne occurs when the sebum is not able to pass through the hair follicle; this happens because the cells of the follicle walls are shed too fast and clump together, blocking the opening of the hair follicle so the sebum cannot get through; bacteria then starts to build up and grow in the area creating an acne lesion. It is most commonly found on the face, chest, and back. It can have a real impact on your confidence and the way you feel about yourself.

Prescription Treatments

At Cheshire Lasers, we are able to prescribe topical prescription preparations to improve acne and blemish-prone skin.

Should these be recommended at your consultation, you would need to see Dr Teri Johnson for a face to face consultation to discuss these preparations.

How do I know what treatments / Products I need?

severe acne treatments Cheshire

Before any treatment can be carried out, we recommend a full consultation. We will identify your concerns and go over the treatments you have tried in the past. We will want to know the treatments you have tried from your GP, Dermatologist and other clinics. A medical history will need to be discussed to check that the most appropriate treatments are recommended. To make sure your medical history and medication will not contraindicate the treatments.

We can then discuss your best treatment options and the most likely outcomes. We may even advise you to go back to your GP for treatment with them.

Who should I see about my acne at Cheshire Lasers?

For mild to moderate acne:

One of our Aestheticians can help you.
A 30-minute consultation is £25.

They will perform a skin analysis to assess your skin and can then recommend skincare, facials, hydrafacials, dermalux light, peels and or microdermabrasion.

Should you purchase any skincare or arrange any treatments the £25 consultation fee is deducted from the cost of your treatment.

You can book this here.

For Moderate to Severe acne or acne that does not respond to treatment:

If you have not done so already, we highly recommend you see your GP, who can prescribe a range of topical or oral treatments. You may even need a referral to a dermatologist for resistant cases.

If you have gone down that route and are still struggling, we recommend you book an appointment with Dr Johnson.

A 30-minute private consultation is £50.

She will discuss the treatments you have had over the counter and on prescription from your GP and Dermatologist, as well as skincare products you have tried.

She can recommend the treatment(s) / products she thinks would most likely help. If necessary, she can prescribe items from the Obagi Clenziderm system or the ZO Medical Product range. Sometimes, she may recommend you see your GP again so they can prescribe alternative treatments for you or recommend you see a Dermatologist.

Plasma Skin Lesion Removal and Skin Tightening

Electrocautery Plasma Treatments Cheshire skin tightening and skin lesion removal.

Plasma is a revolutionary technology for skin tightening using plasma to stimulate & contract the skin, causing tightening and lifting.

What is Plasma?

Plasma is one of the four fundamental states of matter, the others being solid, liquid, and gas.

Plasma is formed through the ionisation of atmospheric gases; it is an ionised gas composed of ions and electrons, which is created by separating electrons from the electron shell of gas atoms or molecule rupture (ionisation).

How does Plasma Skin tightening work?

The plasma handpiece creates ionisation when it is hovered over the skin. The plasma arc creates a small, controlled injury to the skin’s surface, triggering the body’s natural healing response and stimulating the production of collagen and elastin fibres. As the skin heals, it becomes tighter, firmer, and more youthful in appearance, reducing the appearance of wrinkles, sagging, and other signs of ageing. It works particularly well with small areas of heavily lined skin, such as the upper and lower eyes and ‘smoker’s lines’ over the mouth.

How does Plasma Skin Lesion Removal work?

When the handpiece is directed onto the skin lesion, such as a mole or skin tag, the high-energy plasma interacts with the tissue, causing it to heat up rapidly. This thermal energy effectively vaporises and breaks down the cells of the skin lesion, leading to its removal. The heat generated by the plasma can also cauterise the surrounding blood vessels, reducing bleeding during the procedure. The treated area then forms a scab, which eventually falls off, leaving behind smoother skin.

How painful is a Plasma treatment?

A local anaesthetic is used before commencement of the procedure. So the pain from the treatment should be minimal. The healing process can cause some mild discomfort but over the counter pain relief can be taken to help.

Are there any side effects from Plasma?

The side effects are immediate and may include swelling & reddening of the treated area for 2-3 days. The healing process will include crusting (which should be left to fall away naturally) over the course of about a week.

Treatments can sometimes lead to more prolonged redness and swelling while the skin recovers. This is more likely when the eyelids or areas close to the eye are treated. Some individuals can take up to 7 to 10 days to fully recover.

You can apply make up Makeup to cover the area treated after 24hrs.

The results are instant, although you can see further improvements over the next 2-4 weeks for skin tightening.

Which areas can be treated with Plasma?

Most areas of skin can be treated for skin lesion removal, such as warts and skin tags.

When it comes to treating fine lines & wrinkling, it is most commonly used on the upper & lower eye area, smoker’s lines, facial lines, belly button area, thighs, cleavage, and décolletage.

Who Performs Plasma Treatments at Cheshire Lasers

Cheshire Lasers currently does not have a specialist who offers Plasma treatment. However, we offer a range of other procedures which can deliver similar results. We use advanced electrocautery and advanced electrolysis to remove skin lesions and radiofrequency and HIFU for skin tightening.

Where Plasma is the best option for your concern, we usually recommend Plasma treatments with Dr Maeve Kenningham at her Wrexham Clinic.

What is DermaQuest Skin Brite?

DermaQuest uses the latest in skin brightening ingredients, Chromabright, which provides results as effective as 2% Hydroquinone but without toxicity or any bleaching agents. Chromabright works by effectively brightening and lightening damaged skin only, correcting pigmentation and melasma by inhibiting Tyrosinase production. Combining Chromabright with additional ingredients, such as Alpha Arbutin, the DermaQuest SkinBrite System is the ultimate pigmentation treatment.

The peel combines three acids (Phytic, Mandelic and Lactic) working to diminish pigmentation and even the skin tone, providing a more even skin tone which is softer and smoother in appearance. The Phytic Acid is a tyrosinase inhibitor to help suppress the melanocytes to prevent and reduce pigmentation and promote a more even skin tone. The combination of the exfoliating AHA’s, Mandelic and Lactic acids provide a brighter, refined texture to the skin.

The DermaQuest SkinBrite Peel can be used in conjunction with micro-needling, IPL and Laser, although with the powerful ingredients of SkinBrite you might not need to. Working alongside the SkinBrite Peel, a full range of home care products are available that will support treatment and offer additional benefits through the inclusion of Chromabright, Kojic Acid, BV-OSC, Alpha Arbutin, Liquorice Extract, Emblica and Vitamin C into a daily routine.

We recommend you use products to prepare your skin 3-8 weeks before this treatment. Please book a consultation with Kate if you would like to range this treatment.

dermaquest tca peels

Kate our most experienced cosmetic technician performs dermaquests 7 % TCA peels.

Combining -TCA 7% and Salicylic Acid 2% we can provide a professional peel treatment with all the benefits of a 30% TCA peel without the side effects. It is derived from plant extracts, it dissolves the top layer of the stratum corneum, providing a smoother, softer appearance to the skin.

This peel can:

  • improve overall skin tone and texture
  • improve photodamaged skin
  • improve comedonal acne
  • reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • evens coloring and lightens pigmentation

At your consultation our cosmetic technician will assess your skin and take a skin and medical history to assess if you are suitable for this treatment.

A test patch will be performed if you want to proceed with the peel and you will need to purchase skin care preparation products to use for 2 weeks before the procedure and at least 1 week after.

Clients that would like a peel for rejuvenation purposes such as a softer, smoother, clearer or more even skin tone can have just one peel and may have up to three peels a year.

If you want to lighten pigmentation, reduce acne scarring or have significant photo ageing a course of 3 is recommended. 1 every month for 3 months, a minimum of 4 weeks must be left between each treatment. This will be discussed at your consultation. If have significant photo ageing and would prefer a stronger single peel, you can book a 30% peel with Emma, the procedure is the same but the downtime can be several days longer and the peeling even deeper.

It is important that you follow the recommended advice on skin care from your therapist. The skin must be prepared 2 weeks before the treatment for skin types 1 -3 and 4 – 6 weeks for pigmentation and skin types 4 – 6. The products must also be used for one to two weeks afterwards. It is important that you stop using the Glycolic wash 24 hours before your treatment and do not use it for a week after the treatment.

Following the peel the skin will feel tight as if you have been out in the sun for too long, the skin will look red with some white frosted areas. We will apply some mineral makeup before you leave so you can continue life as normal. Your skin will be a little sensitive for a few days and may look pinky red or browner. On day 2 to 3 your skin will appear dry tight and wrinkly but should cover easily with mineral makeup. The skin will normally peel on day 3 and this peeling can last for 2 – 3 days, sometimes the skin can peel more than once. This peeling period is harder to disguise with makeup. If you are having the peel to lighten pigmentation then the areas of pigmentation can go darker before it peels off.

It is important that when you go home after you have had the peel that you avoid any heat or steam, such as cooking and ironing. This is because the heat can reheat the skin. You must avoid getting the skin wet for 4 hours, after this you may cleanse the skin at any time. You should avoid exercise for 4 days after the peel. Swimming must be avoided for 4 days after the peel because the chlorine in the water can irritate the skin.

You should avoid sunlight for at least a month after treatment and use a high SPF at all times

If you have any worries or concerns then you can contact the clinic on 01606 841255, or 07858118117 if no one is at the clinic to take your call.

DermaQuest Skin Therapy has replaced parabans in its formulations with a new generation of preservatives that are proven safe and effective. Making all dermaquest products PARABAN-FREE.

Dermal Fillers

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that reduce the appearance of wrinkles, lines and deeper folds, rejuvenating the skin to give a more youthful appearance.

Are Dermal Fillers Permanent or Temporary?

Dermal fillers are classified into two types: non-permanent (resorbable) or permanent (non-resorbable).

Non-permanent fillers last 6-18 months, depending on the product used.

Dr Teri Johnson and her associates only use resorbable fillers because permanent fillers have a much higher risk of permanent side effects.

What do Dermal Fillers contain?

In the 1980s, collagen was the first dermal filler approved in the USA.

However, the leading dermal fillers in the UK mostly contain hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of our own skin which can be synthesised artificially to create a dermal filler. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers have the advantage that they can last 4 to 18 months, depending on the product. They can be broken down by the enzyme hyaluronidase if needed, so the filler can be removed more rapidly if necessary.

Other non-permanent dermal fillers contain ingredients such as Poly-L-lactic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite which stimulate collagen while in the skin.

Which Dermal Filler should I have?

Dr Teri Johnson and her associates at Cheshire Lasers collectively have had many years of experience performing thousands of treatments with various dermal filler brands. This experience has helped them determine which fillers work best in different areas for different skin types and indications to give the effect they want to achieve. Some dermal fillers suit some skin types more than others. There is no perfect filler; different ones last longer in some people than others. Different skin types respond better to different products.

At your consultation,  your medical practitioner will assess your skin type, thickness, hydration, texture, and the problems you hope to address. They can then recommend the most appropriate treatment for you and will show you some before and after images of her previous treatments that she has performed with that product to enable you to decide if the treatment is for you.

Which Dermal Fillers do Cheshire Lasers use?

Dr Teri and her associates use only quality-assured premium Dermal Fillers at Cheshire Lasers. Well-known established Dermal Filler brands such as Restylane, Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Vycross, Radiesse, Ellansé, Teosyal, and Belotero.  Each specialist has a different experience in different products and has different preferences.

If you have had dermal fillers in the past, giving your medical practitioner as much information as possible about the treatment is helpful. It will benefit you and them to know which products have been used, and where they were injected. It is also helpful to know if the treatment gave you the results you were expecting and if you had any unwanted effects.

Dermal fillers come in different thicknesses; in general, the thicker products help contour the face. Whilst thinner products are great for hydrating the tissues and are more effective in treating finer superficial lines.

What can Dermal Fillers Treat?

Popular Dermal Filler treatment areas include:

Smokers Lines
Lip Rejuvenation for ageing shrunken lips
Lip Enhancement to volumise lips
Cheek Enhancement
Temple Enhancement
Chin Enhancement
Marionette Line Reduction
Naso-labial folds (nose to mouth lines)
